After posting yesterday about the new and traditional food mix I decided to look up Hanukkah and their food, and why they have latkes and doughnuts. Originally I found this website http://judaism.about.com/od/holidays/a/Hanukkah-Food-Traditions.htm. It gave me a good understanding about Hanukkah food, but it just wasn’t enough, I needed to know more.  I tried to find a good website about the food, but all I could find was more history about Hanukkah. After knowing a good deal about the history of Hanukkah, the holiday is not that big of a holiday for the Jew’s, and that is probably the reason why I could not find a lot of information about the food of Hanukkah online. For the Jewish, the food of Hanukkah is usually latkes and doughnuts, but it could be anything else cooked in oil. That’s the key word oil. Pretty much anything that is cooked in oil you can have on Hanukkah. Make your own tradition and cook something you love in oil, and celebrate Hanukkah.

Also for this wonderful night of Hanukkah I decided to try on my own and make traditional latkes. I found a great recipe from http://www.theglobaljewishkitchen.com/2009/12/07/chanukah-potato-latkes/. This latke recipe is a classic, they taste just how my best friends Jewish Grand mom would make them (in other words the latkes are simply amazing).  Happy Holidays! –Nickie
